A carbon offset is a method of compensating for your emissions by supporting a carbon dioxide reduction in another location. Driving, flying, and heating buildings are examples of regular activities that consume energy and emit carbon emissions at home and at work.

Why needs offsetting?

Recognizing the importance of forests in climate regulation, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has looked at the possibility of tree planting and better forest management to reduce CO2 emissions.

Because each newly planted tree seedling in the tropics removes an average of 50 kilograms of CO2 from the atmosphere each year during its growth period of 20–50 years, offsetting a minimum of 1 tonne of CO2, compared to 13 kilograms of CO2 per year for a tree in the temperate regions, tropical countries provide most of the afforestation and reforestation opportunity.
